Strega Nona which means "Grandma Witch" in Italian*, is a wonderful, wise old crone. She reminds us of a savvy old Italian family matriarch! The Strega Nona Witch Doll is a grandmotherly type, bringing in her cauldron and small logs necessary to start the fires for the day's cooking. She wears a big apron trimmed in eyelet lace and a gray shawl over her shoulders. She is even wearing a little beaded necklace. Although Strega Nona stands on her own she has her broom, ready to transport her as necessary! She is a lovely porcelain figure with gentle double chin, large blue eyes, red lipstick, and bicycle glasses.
This witch measures about 16 inches tall and unlike most of the other witches, she is standing.
*In the Italian language, the word "strega" means "witch" and the word "nonna" means "grandmother." Just as "grandma" is a colloquial variation of "grandmother," "nona" is a colloquial variation of "nonna."
